About

What it is

verdict.rip is a prediction market on Solana: anyone can create a market on any question, and anyone can bet.

Our mission

Nobody should need our permission to create a market or to bet. We keep the rules few and simple: every rule should fit in one sentence.

Money you deposit can always come out. Nobody, us included, can freeze your funds or block a withdrawal, with one exception: the issuer of the collateral token (Circle, for USDC) can freeze an account, and that can block the market using it. We name the risks instead of hiding them in terms of use.

Risks

Staying silent can be the resolver's most profitable move, and the creator is the resolver by default. If no verdict is recorded within 24 hours after the deadline, the market is voided and each YES and each NO redeems for half. A creator who sold the popular side and kept the other comes out ahead by doing nothing. A market whose rules say nothing about what happened can void without anyone lying.

Some markets can be settled before the deadline. The creator chooses this when the market is created; it is public and cannot be changed. The resolver then picks the moment: they can change their standing prices just before, take other people's orders at prices they know are stale, and void the market whenever they want.

The creator and the resolver are paid at every mint, before they have done anything, and the resolver owes nothing afterwards. Nothing checks the verdict. When the creator is the resolver, they can resolve against their own orders.

Nobody can exit a position without a counterparty. A merge needs both tokens, and minting is not an exit. Redeeming at the end is guaranteed; selling earlier is not.

Your YES and NO tokens run on Solana's Token-2022 program, which its maintainers can still replace. A malicious or faulty replacement could create tokens outside of mint and redeem them against the escrow of real markets, leaving it unable to pay everyone. We have no lever to prevent this.

We cannot pause or refund a market once it exists. Before you bet, read the resolution rules and check the resolver's past markets.

Market Integrity

No power over a market

We have no power over a market that already exists. We cannot freeze it, resolve it or cancel it, block a merge or a redeem, touch the money held in it, or change its date, its verdict, its resolver or its creator's fee rates.

We keep six settings and nothing else, listed on our transparency page. Two apply to all markets at once, including existing ones: our fee rate, which has no cap, and the wallet that receives our share. Two apply to every order placed afterwards, even on an existing market: the accepted collaterals, and the tick and minimum size of an order. They change what a new mint costs or what a new order must respect, but a mint never pays more than the cap it signed, and they never touch what is already deposited or already placed. This holds because the program can no longer be modified: its upgrade authority is revoked.
